Just getting caught up on this thread and I missed the Terminator talk.
This is my ranking from best to genisys.
1. Terminator 2
2. Terminator 1
3. Terminator Dark Fate
4. Terminator 3
5. Terminator Salvation
6. Terminator Genisys
T2 is one of my favourite movies of all time, one of the best sequels and one of the best action movies of all time. T1 is like a noir horror movie, great movie but does feel dated compared to T2. Dark Fate has some really great parts in it (and bad) and is really close to T3 in my eyes but does edge it out. T3 is largely a remake of T2 with stupid jokes, but it does have some great action set pieces. Salvation is the biggest departure of the franchise, if this movie had more of a story it could be higher. Terminator Genisys is my least movie favourite by far.
Some of the biggest problems with the Terminator movies after T2 were the casting choices. So many awful choices. T3 had a cowardly useless John Conner. With Dark Fate Dani was not believe as a leader / savior and I hate to say this but I didn't like Linda Hamilton's character and portrayal in this one. Genisys had the worst casting of them all with Sarah Conner and John Conner. The actor playing Kyle Reese was pretty meh I suppose, this actor is pretty meh in everything. Obviously the movies after T2 take some strange story directions and some of those even are ignored in some of the latter movies. Overall I am a fan of any Terminator movie as I love the concept but I do consider anything after T2 to be a guilty pleasure movie.
