If you trade Hanifin, you protect Gio/Andersson/Tanev. And hope that Tanev can work with Valamaki, like he did with Hughes. Have to hope that Mackey is ready for bottom pair duty, and re-sign Stone.
Having this flush D core hasn't necessary led to success, so if you can improve the F group at the expense of the D group, you have to at least look at it.
