NHL GMs do more than look at goal totals when evaluating a player, and even a healthy, bounce-back Monahan has a very limited toolset. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if his next team plays him at wing and treats him as a PP specialist.

Monahan may be slow but he’s not poor defensively - Sutter has commented on this. He plays position quite well. And when he doesn’t defer to Gaudreau, he passes the puck well.
