I would be more worried about Treliving using that cap space to sign a big contract over the summer.
If it's a 1 year deal, sure, why not.
But the Flames are relying on the cap space for the following season to re-sign Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Monahan the next year. Lindholm and Hanafin the next.
And Treliving is in a tough spot. If the Flames miss the playoffs this upcoming season, he's likely done. So if Gio was claimed by Seattle, Treliving would probably feel the need to sign someone this summer in an effort to compete. Again, a 1-year deal for someone would make the most sense. Either that or a trade.
