I'm trying this new thing where I don't get attached emotionally to players that I like. In the past it was guys like Iggy and Kipper. Even recently Gaudreau and Gio, Tkachuk too. 30 years of disappointment has shown me that method doesn't work. Especially when your one of the guys in charge of the franchise.

Call me heartless, but doing right by the player simply doesn't work for this franchise. It works for some teams. But we are not one of those teams. It should 100% be about doing what is best for the franchise going forward. Players know what they are signing up for, and they get paid millions to be a part of this league. If it means uprooting their lives to shift them off somewhere so the team can has a chance to win, then it should be done. Those millions they are make are part of the compensation for having that uprooting hanging over their heads. Even the wives should know what they are signing up for once that ring goes on the finger. The only people I feel somewhat for are their kids in school.

Therefore as much as I like Tkachuk, if the 'right' deal comes along that improves the team and it's a net win, the team should 100% do it regardless of hurt feelings. It should be that way with any player on the roster. No more of this hoping they stick with the franchise forever so they get their jersey up in the rafters one day.
