Tkachuk's Qualifying offer looms large over his value in the NHL.
St.L may be interest if he signing a long term deal. Would they be interested if it is at the 9M QO level?
Would any team be interested Tkachuk with a 9M x 1 or 2 year deal.. Not so much unless they get to dump some cap overpayment back on the acquisition.
Maybe Tkachuk he is giving the Flame organization a show me by going for a 2x9M or a couple of 9M x 1 which is what the Flames have to do after next season.
If the Flames do not smarten up and provide a winning team that give Tkachuk the chance to shine maybe he just cashes the 9M until he gets to pick his team.
Usually the short term deals Mangiapane style are keep it up for another 2 years and then maybe we will pay you the big bucks.
The Flames have to make a 9M qualifying offer or he becomes a UFA. As a UFA he becomes more valuable to other teams as they don't have to give up draft picks, prospects or other assets.
If Tkachuk is at all uncomfortable with the Flames there would be no reason for him to sign an Aho 8.46 x 2 to take him to UFA Status.... Flames have already basically put a 9x2 on the table with the last contract.
