I think that everything that happened in Endgame is part of the "sacred timeline" and was "meant to happen."
But what we will come to find is that the "sacred timeline" is a similar fate to Thanos' snap that we just haven't seen come to pass yet. The bad guys have won. Loki's about to nudge the situation, we just won't understand how until much later.
think about that "sacred timeline origin story". Massive battle between splitting multiverses, finally three powers agree to put an end to it all, and form an extra temporal military force to ensure the survival of a single timeline that guarantees their own supremacy... that actually sounds pretty damn authoritarian and very likely the result of some foul play. I think we'll see some of this in the Dr. Strange movie. I posted last page what I think might be the ultimate stage 3 type of plan where this could be headed.
