Bryson is a lot of things to be sure, but his "overwhelm the course" strategy for the US Open is looking pretty genius. It's especially helpful on a course like Torrey Pines that has no real trees, but yeah if you can blast it 340 every single time even in the thick rough you are looking at between a wedge and no more than a 6 iron into every hole. As we see at Augusta though when you do add trees the strategy becomes far more difficult to execute, but until the US Open decides to make it two feet deep rough (which I imagine is what will be done next year to stop him), it appears to be a winning strategy.
