That conversation sounds like Trotz just talking hockey. Saying “that’s a team I’d like to coach” doesn’t actually mean he wanted to coach in Calgary. He just liked the players and/or was making polite hockey conversation. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t say “your team sucks”).
Anyway, there was literally never a window unless in April you were convinced that Trotz wouldn’t be extended in June. IIRC Peters had to declare on his option with Fla well before then, so that was the urgency.
