The only possible argument that could be advanced would involve the relative health of the players. One would have to believe that health wise, Monny is completely broken, and simply removing his cap space equates to good value. And if that were in fact true, why would the Flyers want him? In any event, we don’t know that.
Presumably, the Flyers cannot take on so much cap in trading Patrick. The best draft pick/prospect offered likely gets him.
I could see the Hawks take a chance on him. See if playing with Kane jump starts his offensive game. Johnny might do the same thing for him. It’s likely a fairly low cost gamble worth taking.
