I think you have a valid point; in theory though. Yes, these last 2 seasons have been sell outs and would have been sell outs without these antics. I recall around 1990 coming to Calgary and finding getting a seat in the Dome as hard as it is now.
However by the late 90's it became too easy to get tickets; and the Flames even once mentioned a number of seats they had to sell to ensure the team would stick around. Now fortunately that situation no longer exists, and there is still a waiting list for tickets.
When I checked last season, the waiting list was around 3000 people. It is now under 1000. Once the waiting list is gone, and once the Flames have a non-playoff season, we will be back to under sellout conditions. So at that point, if we continue with these cheesey non-hockey events, we may be able to increase the entertainment value for the fans who are less ravenous than you or me.
