I can't remember who it was but I heard a great segment on the fan this week about the Boston bruins and the potential downfall of hanging on to players that don't fit your team because of a perceived value that you might lose in a trade.
Basically saying that they clearly "lost" the trades they made for franchise players like Thornton and Seguin but they identified that those players didn't match the vision and culture that they wanted so they got rid of them.
By being more worried about the type of team they wanted to build and not getting bent out of shape about the perceived value of the assets they were moving out they built a winning culture that lead to team success.
This is why trading a guy like Monahan is less about what you get get.for him and more about being honest about what keepingnhim around will bring to the team.
