C Victor Stjernborg,5'11"203lbs (Vaxjo, J20, SWE): Captain of the team, with 19gp/9g/8a/17pts. His play earned him 30 games in the SHL, where he was a defensive forward, and PKer. Though he has been cast as a defensive forward at the next level, his offense has been grossly underrated-his production was not far off of that of Lysell (13pts in 11 games), Rosen (12 in 12), or Stenman (11 in 12). Stjernborg had less talent to play with, and sacrifices offensive numbers to play an air-tight defensive game. I really like this kid-he's an uber competitive, team-first future Captain at the professional level. He's a leader, and plays the game right.
This kid has a truly high motor, and is a lunch-pail guy. He plays with pace, and is very strong. His offensive game is simple, but very solid, perhaps lacking some of the dynamic qualities of the three players I mentioned above. He has good hands for passing and shooting, and he's a creative playmaker with great anticipation and hockey sense. Storms in on the forecheck to create offense, and hustles back to fulfill his defensive duties. Goes to the net as well as anyone.
Stjernborg plays an uncompromising defensive game, which is already further developed than most prospects in this class. Sacrifices numbers to play the team game. Doesn't get stressed in difficult situations, and battles all over the ice. Good against the rush-steals the puck, and gets the transition going. I think he's a little like a Mikael Backlund. He's pegged to go in the 2nd/3rd round, and I would love it if we grabbed him.
