I think you can wear whatever you want and look fine - so long as the clothes fit somewhat properly. Oversized / baggy clothes dont look good on anyone, nor do i think they are more comfortable than proper fitting clothes.
But yes, as Pepsifree said, I couldnt care less about cars; but i get why people like them. Same with clothes - it's easy to see why people enjoy dressing well.
IMHO, when someone says they like my coat or my outfit or something like that, it is far better than someone liking my car. My car was purchased from one of few companies. The only barrier at that point is capital - within reason. Clothing is much more of a personal thing. If someone likes what you put together then it feels great
One of the few great feelings you can get is when a person (who isn't hitting on you) says "hey thats a great jacket, or i like that look)
