What excuse are you looking for, being made by whom?
More time. Better linemates. Not only wasn’t he a liability, he excelled. The observations and recommendations by a lot of people here were validated, simply by a new organization using the player.
Super complicated, even the Wizard and his hand picked coaches couldn’t figure him out
The argument now is not whether Calgary got as much as possible out of the asset, it’s just their degree of failure.
Even if Bennett retired tomorrow, this stint with Florida makes Tre look like the loser

Jury is still out on this one...James Neal was the NHL's leading goal scorer after 15 games and he is almost out of the league. I wouldn't take the victory lap just yet. Not to mention he scored one goal in the playoffs and cost his team multiple times.
I suspect he has a decent year next year in the 40-50 points range which is pretty solid.
Bennett was incredibly unlucky at times in Calgary but since the Flames game Vs. the Jets where he scored a terrible goal everything has bounced his way. Truth lies somewhere in the middle IMO.
