The particulars aren't important. Party unity is irrelevant to my overarching point: Democrats shouldn't bother making any overtures to "bipartisanship". Republican feedback and input is absolutely irrelevant. They waste too much of their time trying to be conciliatory, in the mistaken belief that if they can get some buy-in from the other side of the aisle then it's for the betterment of their chances at "mending fences" with Republican lawmakers and voters. That thinking is hopelessly naïve.
The truth is that most Republican voters will never vote for the Democrats anyway, no matter what, so there's absolutely no point whatsoever trying to woo them. Republicans pass whatever stupid crap they want when they're in power, and work their hardest to be as obstructive as possible when they're not in power: the Democrats should do the same. They shouldn't make any compromises anymore. Republicans will continue to bend the shaky foundations of the US political system to lie, cheat and steal their way into power anyway: better for the Democrats if they pass as much legislation as possible as quickly as possible.
