I really appreciate Sandman posting all of these write-ups, I really enjoy them.
My FC mock draft for the Flames:
1. MCTAVISH MASON (C) -unlikely to happen but potential for 1C, never passing that up as I feel it's more likely to find a 1D and 1G later in the draft, where you don't find 1C later in the draft often.
2. PEART JACK (D) -NCAA bound D but rising fast, 2 way LHS Rookie of the year. I think he's going to be a very solid D man but after Adam Fox I admit I'd be worried a little.
3. KIDNEY RILEY (C) -High IQ C, amazing playoffs right now, more chances to hit on a C and high IQ players are a weak spot for me.
3. DACH COLTON (C) -I am hoping for a Zach Hyman type, not necessarily the most skilled, but physical, hard working, the type that excels in the playoffs when things get a little tough. Hopefully a 2/3C that can play top 2 line W as well.
My drafting Philosophy is intelligence, skating, size in that order. Before I even look at those attributes I look for the ability to score at the Junior level. If you can't score there, you almost always can't score at the NHL level. I think goals percentage relative to teammates is a good indicator of if you're driving the play. Player A scoring 50P in 40GP with linemates scoring 55 and 53 I would judge a little harsher than Player B scoring 40P in 40GP with linemates scoring 35P and 30P.
Lastly I prefer risers in the draft rather than those that seem to slip although I have not gathered enough evidence to say whether that's right or wrong historically.
