Maybe this is an age thing. I grew up when making gay jokes was the norm. Making AID jokes was the norm. It's great that is no longer the case, but every locker room insult was about being gay. I'm not defending it, it's just simply a fact.
I saw the clip and didn't dawn on me that he could have been doing anything but making an AIDs joke. I didn't need someone to connect the dots. This was something that if said 30 years ago (not on TV at least) there wouldn't be a debate about what he meant in my opinion, it also wouldn't have mattered.
So in one way, awesome that we need some convoluted "testing positive for rum" excuse because we've progressed to the point that making a gay joke like this is career jeopardizing. And even better that people can't seem to fathom that someone would make an AIDs/gay joke so they believe his excuse. I think that speaks highly of them and society's progress. But I'll never be convinced lol.
