We are talking about Monny at a time when he is still injured. Once he proves himself healthy and productive, that might be different. But Monny is thought to be someone you need to pair with an elite offensive guy to be effective even when healthy. Not likely the type of guy Buffalo would be looking for as the premium piece coming back.

We agree. I should have been clearer in my post ("non-negotiable from Buffalo's standpoint") in that if I was Buffalo I'd 100% need Lindholm included.
However, I don't think it's outlandish to offer Monahan instead of Lindholm if you are the Flames depending on who else goes back in the deal. Monahan is a 26 year old who has been in the league for 7 years and if you throw out the anomaly years (2018-2019 and this year) he is a ~60pt ~30g center who's 200ft game is just ok. That is how Buffalo will see him. The only question is will Buffalo think a total package that includes Monahan instead of Lindholm is enough. I tend to think not, but it should be explored.
