Don't discount that Francis will be looking for leadership and players that set a good example. It's a room full of players that haven't played together before with no history so they will need some strong leaders in the locker room. Also Gio will probably be the best defensemen available to them in terms of on ice play as he's still a legit top 4 defenseman that can play 20 minuts a game. I don't see why they would pass on Gio for Kylington who they can pick up on waivers in October. IMO the only way they don't pick Gio is if the Flames make a deal with them (which I hope doesn't happen of course).
