I don't think McDavid will ask for a trade. I think he likes being a God up in Edmonton with no real accountability. Where else are they going to let him pick his linemates and play full 2 minute PPs or play 30 mins a game.
He's not even upset they're out in the first round. His goal was to rack up as many points in 56 games as possible and then enjoy his summer. Now the city will spend the next 3 months preaching about how Connor needs help and how Connor will learn from this and be better next season and how they'll win the cup for sure after this great experience.
Then they'll do it all again, and again, and again. Everyone will think McDavid will leave once he's a FA but he won't. He'll spend his days racking up easy points against bottom feeders and chewing up the Oilers cap.
A year or two into his next contract he'll lose a step and become a PPG player. His contract, still the highest in the league will become an albatross. Without his acceleration he'll become more injury prone and spend the next few seasons oft injured and struggling to hit that PPG mark.
The last 2 or 3 years of that contract he'll be a PP specialist playing LW on the 2nd line. Of course he'll still be the highest paid player in the league and the Oilers faithful will just talk about what could've been and how it's all a conspiracy that the refs let too many penalties slide against him.
McDavid will take his 200+ million dollars and his personal awards and fade into obscurity before he hits 38.
