McDavid is an amazing talent, but it's not rare for these types of guys to often need very specific skillsets to excel with.
Crosby is no different. Pittsburgh has brought in tons of guys to play with him and it often hasn't worked. He just seems to do better with the Bryan Rust's and Pascal Dupois of the world.
McDavid still PPG for his career in the playoffs, so it's not like he's "Bad" but the game tightens up and slows down in the playoffs and that's not his game.
He excels off the rush with fast pace and on the Powerplay. In the playoffs odd man rushes and PP's dry up.
Honestly if I'm playing McDavid in the playoffs I just sit back when he's on the ice. To me his game on the cycle isn't amazing (partially because outside of Draisaitl he doesn't have skilled linemates to cycle with), and if you just don't let him hit you on the rush you will limit his effectiveness.
McDavid is the most prolific player in the game but Crosby and Mackinnon are more well rounded in their skillsets for sure.
