Where's this ample cap space. They're losing RNH, they're not going to find a cheaper replacement, that's just fantasy. Also I think its likely that Barrie will want a big raise, and Larsson might not stick around. That's a two top 4's. As well starting goaltenders aren't cheap. A Smith replacement is going to come with an increase.
Even if they dump off one of Larsson or Barrie and bring back Klefbom, the guy is a massive injury risk. It will still leave the Oilers short on top pairing guys.
This is a difficult off season, the smart move is to trade Draisaitl for a raft full of depth as his value will never be higher, though its clear that they don't trust him to run his own line.
