Monahan needs to be groomed to take Backlund's role. Simple as that. This organization screwed up Bennett's development when he had more raw skill than Monahan BECAUSE of Backlund. I think that this team is 2 - top 6 forwards, a 3rd line C (who should NOT be getting paid 5M) and a couple 4th line higher skilled vets to round out the bottom 6.
I think the Flames should go after Hoffman. He is a proven goal scorer and will help improve the Powerplay. He has a wicked shot.

Lindholm not a #1 center
Monahan not a #1 center
Dube NEEDS to play center. Hopefully this happens, and he will naturally become Calgarys top line center. He skates incredibly well, and that is his draft position. Calgary is doing to him what they did to Bennett. Forcing him to play wing.
It is so sad to me that a guy like Dube is being put on the wing, when he out skates every one of the Flames centres. A center needs to be FAST. A center must play at both ends, support the D/ the breakout etc. Monahan is WAY too slow to do this at a high level. Lindy is WAY more effective on the wing.
DUBE needs to be playing center for Calgary, regardless of who is in the lineup. He is too smart of a player to be wasted like Sam Bennett did.
