I would like to see GIO picked up by Seattle.
Gio is forever a flame. Although he brings lots of great leadership qualities, such as commitment, hard work, respect... his leadership has not achieved Calgary anything substantial in his tenure. One playoff round win, which he was not even in the line up for. (I am not counting the play in round last year, as that was a "play in" round.
The guy is a massive success story, and will go down as one of the best defensemen to suit up for Calgary ever. Norris winner, etc.
Calgary does need a new Captain, and new energy, with new leadership taking over. Calgary does need to face lift this franchise, and its time Gio either passed on the torch (assuming he plays out his contract with Calgary), OR Seattle picks him up, as i do believe there is zero chance Calgary protects him.
Gio has zero productive years left. He is a step behind, and his minutes were around 25 a game which is about 8 minutes too high. Him being on the ice that much does not help Calgary win hockey games anymore. Brodie not playing with Gio was immediately noticed this season.
Tanev/Hannifin were our best pairing by far.
Stone was a major plus on the back end. If he was playing since the start of the season, i think Calgary gets in. He was that much of difference in my opinion. I do not know why this guy isn't playing in every game in the 3rd pairing. He is SO steady and smart. Great guy to have playing with the young boys. I really hope we sign him again.
That being said, I Hope Mark Giordano is picked up by Seattle. I can't see Calgary winning with him in the line up anymore. This team 100 percent needs different leadership. It is time to turn the page on the GIO era.
If Calgary does protect Gio, i will be speechless.
