Take it easy ...
NHL players have agents, and clubs have doctors. It's an assessment as to what additional damage can be done, and if it's deemed it's just playing through pain without a risk of further injury it's likely up to the player to a large degree.
Tanev wasn't dragged to the ice every night by Sutter and Treliving. When he got hurt his agent would be involved.
