These are players that play a sport where someone face gets mashed up every frickin game. These players will REFUSE to play with a cage although that is rationally the smart decision to make for their long term health.
Hockey players are the last people that should be making medical decisions for themselves. But as Jiri said above, it's a hockey culture problem, and one that's likely not going away anytime soon. Only when tragic events/lawsuits occur will change come.
