The problem with pickups is the rear end is super light, the vehicle has a high centre of gravity and the tires are really wide. That makes for crappy handling in slippery conditions.
Minivan has all the weight over the drive tires, a lower centre of gravity and narrower tires.

Still blows my mind that this has to be explained to people. Trucks suck in the snow for your typical snowy road drive.
