As soon as the Flames were eliminated from the playoffs, the management should have put the organization first. If I was the owner of this team, I would demand that every reasonable attempt be made to lose out the rest of the season. This would include:
Benching Markstrom, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Giordano and getting the rest of the kids in and playing.
What's the point of playing the vets? This sends them a message that their job is to win then the organization needs to do what is best for themselves and try to secure the highest pick possible.
Hockey management just in general is an old boys club that is seriously lacking in just the most basic business fundamentals.
I have a lot of respect for the Leafs in this case. They engineered their tank for Matthews. Job well done. They deserve to reap the rewards.
