You can argue Simon and the other scrubs haven't earned anything, but they could have been the ones working hard in practice and that's why Sutter is letting him play.
Could be that the "prospects" just aren't pushing it hard enough in practice. Sure Nesterov sucks, but if he's pushing hard in practice and being a pro, while others aren't, that's enough reason for Sutter to play him. Same with Ritchie.
Easy for us to say who should and shouldn't play when we aren't in that locker room or in practice.
We know this is a bad room and bad culture. I'm going to give Darryl leeway here as an experienced coach who has won it all before.
You don't build a winning culture by just saying you want a winning culture, it has to be developed.

Hear this a million times about the Flames for the last decade.
The results don't back it up.
Winning teams graduate prospects. Not just blue chippers but all sorts of prospects. They put prospects in a position to succeed. They give them meaningful minutes in meaningful games.
You can talk about earning it all you want but at some point it just becomes talk and obstinacy.
