I find it hilarious that it is not that uncommon to find people on this forum, who presumably have jobs and maybe even families, think they know more about the what it takes to be and NHL GM than the GM's themselves. That's remarkable if true. I don't know how many hours you have in your day, but I only have 24.
Consider the two GM's being referenced here; Treliving has a pretty extensive history of being a hockey executive which he has been since 1996. He ran a professional league, was as assistant GM for 7 years and now a GM for another 7 years. But sure, he' a moron. Dubas, considered one of the brighter young minds in hockey at the time of his hire, has also been a player agent and an AGM/GM of the Marlies. He won a Calder Cup with the Marlies and is now GM of one of the most valuable fanchises in the league and definitely in this country. Clearly he is idiot.
Out of curiosity, could you provide a list of all the morons who are active GM's? I'm interested to know who are the idiots and who are the brilliant ones. Nothing in between please, because that would be impossible. They must be one or the other.
When one starts stating other people idiots or morons who this person has had no personal interaction or any first hand experience with what the supposed idiot is doing, in this case being a professional hockey executive, I question who the idiot really is.
