I think we're rushing to bet that Monahan will bounce back next season. It's entirely possible that a combination of Gaudreau getting traded this offseason, the likelihood of another injury at game #30 next year and a lower scoring Sutter coached team will only further thwart his production and value further down the drain.
At what point do you cut your losses and squeeze the value of the player at 2 seasons removed from 30 goals as opposed to a possibility that becomes 3 seasons removed next year?
If and especially if Gaudreau goes I think you have to send Monahan subsequently as a significant amount of his value was attached to his chemistry with Gaudreau at the peak of his best years.
