Realistically, the range is between 7 (where Ottawa is now) and 12 (where Chicago is now). The Flames probably don't have to worry about catching the Flyers, who are one game over 500. And the Flames probably won't finish below Detroit (8 games under).

The teams to watch are Ottawa, Chicago, LA, San Jose and Vancouver.
San Jose, Vancouver and Chicago have only won 3 of their past 10 games.
Both Calgary and Ottawa will be 5 games below 500 if Calgary loses to Ottawa in the next game. Ottawa is by far the hottest out of all the non-playoff teams.

Mathematically, the highest the Flames can pick (without a lottery win) is 5th.

Personally, I'm hoping for a top 8 pick, because there appears to be somewhat of a tier cutoff there. But this draft is probably going to be crazy - I won't be surprised if a lot of teams go off the board.
