Coming into the season. We were expected to be competing for a top 5 pick. It was a cinderella season based on extreme luck that was dubbed as “Find a way Flames”. We were never contenders and Anaheim brushed us out of the way like the pretenders we were. That mirage was the reason we went after Dougie Hamilton and management misjudged that we were further ahead than we actually were. It set the events in motion which led to where we are today and the dire situation the organization finds itself in. We never properly bottomed out because it was never made an objective of the organization.
They should have known the caliber of McDavid and done everything in their power to get him. Everyone knew McDavid was going to be this good. They know the caliber of Bedard and should do everything in their power to get him. Everyone knows Bedard is gonna be great.
If the Flames lose the lottery, then whatever. But i will say one thing - without a player like that - the Flames will forever be mediocre. Forget McDavid. The Oilers also have Draisaitl. That management literally has the easiest job in the league filling out a roster. Those 2 alone will make them competitive. Imagine if the Oilers got an actual goaltender and Evan Bouchard blossoms like Byron Bader is saying he will. Then the real misery of the Flames fan will actually begin.
