You will need reading glasses in your 40s. That is certain. If you are naturally nearsighted you can just remove your glasses for near work (the comfort of doing so based on your prescription). If you get LASIK you would need to put glasses on for near work in your 40s.
You need to manage expectations when it comes to LASIK. What is your end goal ? No glasses for a decade? Doable. No glasses forever? Very unlikely.
