I lived in the west side of the beltline (Connaught) from about 2012-13, and then just shy of 4 years in the heart of the beltline nearer central memorial park. I preferred the latter location, it was a little closer to the core where I would walk to and from work every day, where as the western beltline part I'd generally have to jump on the C-train.
I was also a very quick step away from the best parts of 17th Ave or very quickly to Stephen Ave, it was perfect. Part of my years in downtown Calgary I was single, and part of it in a relationship, but in either case it was great to be close to work and the vast majority of my social activities. Some of the best times of my life were living in that area. By the time I left you could definitely feel the economic downturn having its impact on the vibrancy of the area, but I'm sure it'll come back at some point.
