I think if his play doesn't fall off much next season from where he is now I think he could fetch a 2nd round pick but it's fair to expect that he will decline year over year and when is the last time a 38 year old player fetched a 1st round pick at the trade deadline?

I mean look at past examples. How do you conclude that Gio will only muster the same return that Rittich got or less of a return than what Bennett got when Defensemen command a higher price at the deadline especially ones that can play well in all situations.
Deadline Flames eat 50% like they do for Rittich they can’t get more than late picks?
Marty St.Louis and Keith Tkachuk are the only examples of late 30’s guys I can think of going for 1st rounders but there are a ton of worse players that have moved for a 1st. It is also splitting hairs here but Gio will be closer to 38 than 39 at the deadline as he will not turn 39 until the 22/23 season is underway.
I still remember the Sharks getting 2 2nd rounders for Douglas Murray when he wasn’t even a top 4 Dman. Flames got a 2nd and 3rd for Glencross they got a 2nd, prospect drafted in the second and a tweener for Kris Russell. Don’t think about the age, think about the player. Gio will get more than a 2nd at the deadline unless he is hurt or truly takes multiple steps back to where he is questionable to still be in the league.
Gio is not a franchise defining number 1 Dman but he is certainly a good 2/3 on pretty much any team in the league.
