Well isn't it kind of the same situation as Mangiapane? Treliving and co clearly love the guy. Heck, they're trying to build a team of Mangiapane's right now as we speak with that Heineman acquisition.
But I remember shaking my head at the 1 year deal in 2019 as well as the 2 year deal last year as I wanted him locked up long term. But you look at what Treliving is trying to do (Markstrom & Tanev signing) and it comes down to depth. He wanted a deep team, deep in all areas as this is their window to win right now. So, if he could get Tkachuk and Mangiapane on good, team friendly deals in the short term with paid later, then he was going to do that. Obviously, things haven't worked out as planned for Tre and co. So I guess it is what it is at this point, he's got a major to mess to clean up now and we'll see how it all goes.
