Not sure I agree with this - what kind of SUV are you talking about, a stretch Suburban?
Minivans are generally superior to "SUV's" (as in a MDX/Highlander) in terms of cargo space behind the 3rd row... and of the 3rd row itself.
Last gen Sienna had 296 HP I believe... not too shabby, unless you're comparing to the $100K+ SUV market which for sure, will have more hp.
