The fact he has been the de facto top centre on the Flames is not about him. It's about the team, its draft positions, Bennett's failure, etc. Monahan is what he is - a fairly decent player, who's outscored his draft class (yes with help). But I'll say this - he sure seems more coachable than Gaudreau or Tkachuk, who are supposedly the more talented players.
Go talk to Sutter about scratching Monahan and it not making a difference. You might not get the answer you like.

Ok is now good enough for an apparent finisher on a doormat team that isn't finishing? You don't think some of these games this year would be different if Sean decided to step it up, even a little and find a way to score (which is the reason he's paid as much as he is)? At least the new quasi top line can ask its center to handle the puck and make a few creative plays.
If we're now meant to buy the notion that Monahan is supposed to be coached into a mediocre defensive player, then I'll say it again. This franchise is doomed for a very long time.
