This team is a complete joke because of him. He's certainly not alone, but he most definitely embodies everything that has been wrong with this team for 3/4 seasons. No motor, no intensity and a very narrow skill set.

You could scratch Monahan the rest of the way and you can almost guarantee you'd hardly even notice he was gone. How many other "top centers" in the NHL would accomplish this feat? If that's what we as a fanbase and franchise need to tolerate we are in for an even worse run than we've already had over the last 16 years.
Yeah, he's looking OK on that line. Next question.

The fact he has been the de facto top centre on the Flames is not about him. It's about the team, its draft positions, Bennett's failure, etc. Monahan is what he is - a fairly decent player, who's outscored his draft class (yes with help). But I'll say this - he sure seems more coachable than Gaudreau or Tkachuk, who are supposedly the more talented players.

Go talk to Sutter about scratching Monahan and it not making a difference. You might not get the answer you like.
