Monahan is playing with a 2nd round sophomore and a 3rd year 6th round guy guy and looking not bad doing it. Plus they are miles better in their own zone. Gaudreau is playing with two high first rounders. They’d damned well better be scoring more.

Monahan, the supposed number 1 center on this team with a $6.3AAV, former 30 goal scorer turned defensive stalwart (not quite) with a grand total of 4 EV goals all year, is looking not bad as a complete afterthought on the teams quasi second line?
This team is a complete joke because of him. He's certainly not alone, but he most definitely embodies everything that has been wrong with this team for 3/4 seasons. No motor, no intensity and a very narrow skill set.
You could scratch Monahan the rest of the way and you can almost guarantee you'd hardly even notice he was gone. How many other "top centers" in the NHL would accomplish this feat? If that's what we as a fanbase and franchise need to tolerate we are in for an even worse run than we've already had over the last 16 years.
