Don't see the issue. Marleau was coming off a year where he had 20 points in 58 games with the Sharks. That's not awesome or anything, but it's fine third-line production and he was a decent offensive play driver.
I don't blame the Sharks for wanting to re-sign him for this season, particularly during a retool. His game has taken another couple of steps backward and, as a result, he probably won't get another contract. Such is life in the NHL. I'm sure the milestone helped convince Doug Wilson to re-sign him but it's not like he was coming off a year where he was decidedly not NHL-calibre.
