Generally speaking, the private business can post a sign at the door saying that firearms are not allowed on the premises and, thus, someone who has a gun on them would be breaking the law by entering the premises with it.
Of course, whether someone who is intent on conducting a mass shooting truly cares about being a law abiding person is another matter.
