Personally I'd leave Gio exposed, but I don't see this organization doing that to it's captain. (I hope I'm wrong and they just leave Gio exposed with no protection).
IMO if it comes down to having to move a strong pick/prospect to have the Kraken not take Gio, or leaving Tanev exposed, then I'd just expose Tanev before spending a 1st or something similar to protect Gio/Tanev.
He was great this year. But he's going to be 32, is a guy that struggled with injuries in the past, and has 3 years at $4.5M left.
I'm still worried about the last two years of that deal, so if Seattle wants to take that contract off our hands then I'd be okay with losing Tanev.
