It's much ado about nothing. We can only imagine how the communicatian between Friedman and Ferris played out, but the agent was obviously very specific in his language, and the statement should have been a surprise to no one.

For sure its a paraphrase, and I agree that there are definitely degrees of trade request. I guess you'd have everything from "trade me immediately because I will not play another game for this coach" to "if you get a good offer for me, I would be willing to go." To me, the Bennett trade request was somewhere in the middle.
