Calgary ended up finishing 5-5 in the last 10 games. If the Flames had finished 3-7, they would have had the 2nd best odds (Colorado's lottery-winning spot). Calgary, Carolina, Nashville, Tampa and Colorado were all within 3 points.
That's why the Flames should ship away all of the UFAs. Even one game can make a large outcome in the draft order.

It's amplified in a shorter season for sure. Tampa Bay had no business being as bad as they were that year, but crashed hard.
I like a lot of the moves Sakic has made as GM in Colorado and he didn't become GM until after that season ended...Would be fun to jump that bandwagon now....but I can't like that team because Alex Tanguay was pretty much crying on the bench and the Flames looked completely lost knowing they had gotten rid of Iginla...yet still beat an Avalanche team who clearly made a point to not win that game. Them Nashville, and Tampa all tanked pretty hard knowing it was a short season when they were out of it...they all benefitted quite a bit.
