I believe the story that came out after and was mentioned by many is that Dougie simply didn't seem to care if the team lost. He also famously skipped out on the end of season meeting with management, and had some weird demands regarding the team bringing Freddie Hamilton along.
Now a player that doesn't hate to lose can certainly still help you win, but how much he liked hanging out with the team off-ice seems like a weird narrative that got legs because it was meme-worthy essentially.

Given the playoff success that he has experienced in Carolina and what has happened in Calgary it makes you question the "Dougie did not hate to lose, unlike his other Calgary teammates".
