Im sure the debate can roll on about who’s to blame, but it’s hard not to be concerned about Markstrom and his contract. He’s only had two seasons where he played 60 games or more. And in those seasons he has very pedestrian numbers(averaging a 2.75 and .912) So are we looking at a career average goalie who has injury issues? Or someone who parlayed a career year into a UFA contract?

He's younger and they probably feel he has the potential to be just as good or better than Markstrom when he reaches his age. They would have loved to have had both but couldn't.
I'm not worried about Markstrom. This is a nightmare season where nothing is going right. I expect him to regress his last year or two but I think as long as the team doesn't have another season like this we will see him play like he did before he got injured.
If he is in fact still having symptoms that are affecting his concentration the team needs to consider shutting him down soon so he's ready for next season.
