Treliving on the Fan
Wasn't sure where to put this but here is my paraphrased transcript on Brad's interview on the fan this morning. I am sure the full interview will be posted on the Fan's website at some point.
Brad:
-schedule is a fluid situation
-disappointing where we find ourselves, not what anyone expected
-such a challenge to score goals, didn't think we'd lead the league but didn't expect this much of an issue
-defensively we've been not too bad. When we give up a chance, it's ending up in the back of our net
-Covid presents challenges but they are challenges for everyone.
-restrictions are hardest on young or single players, no one around. No family, friends, etc
-Darryl and I have a really good relationship, talk daily.
-when he first came I left him to it a bit so he could get a feel for the group
-our depth up front hasn't worked out to plan
-its close to business as usual leading up to the deadline but there has been a lack of transactions
-lots of teams willing to wait as long as they can before deciding what they will do
-Boomer asks about the number of buyers...not sure there is more. It is likely a pure rental deadline.
-Seattle and the flat cap will make it more difficult and teams will be more cautious
-the amateur level is the biggest challenge of all
-talks specifically about the OHL, where there has been 0 games played
-draft eligible players are being watched on film from last year's games
-we've had monthly Zoom calls with the amateur staff
-the '21 draft will be interesting
-I've had lots of conversations with Ron Francis about Seattle and their plan
-nothing specific on our current roster but more about what is the compensation for not taking certain players
-we are not in a position to give up assets for rentals
-but we are always looking to add with players with term
-we are looking at both sides of it, buying & selling
-major changes usually happen in the offseason
-I haven't been a real busy deadline guy but we are working the phones to see what happens
